Compress PDF

Two honest methods: “Lossless” rebuilds the file with compact object streams and drops unused data, keeping text selectable; savings are often modest. “Strong (rasterize)” turns every page into a JPEG image, which can shrink scans a lot but makes text unselectable and unsearchable.

Strong mode makes text unselectable and removes links. Keep your original file.

Runs entirely in your browser. Your input and files are not uploaded to any server.

How to use

  1. Choose a PDF.
  2. Pick a method. For Strong mode, choose the resolution and JPEG quality.
  3. Press Compress PDF. The new size is shown; download it only if it is smaller.

Examples

Scanned contract, 18 MB

Strong mode at 120 DPI and quality 70% typically produces a much smaller file that is still readable on screen.

Lossless mode; if the saving is small, the PDF was already efficient.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the lossless saving small?

Most of a PDF’s size is usually images and fonts. Recompressing embedded images without rasterizing pages requires deep PDF rewriting that this browser tool does not perform.

What does rasterize mean for me?

Each page becomes a picture. Text can no longer be selected, searched or read by screen readers, links stop working and printing quality depends on the DPI you pick. Keep the original.

Is there a page limit?

Strong mode renders pages one by one; documents of a few hundred pages work on desktop but may be slow on phones.
